Game by Walter Dean Myers is a great sports fiction book. I chose this book because I like to play basketball. I know teachers sometimes say “don’t judge a book by it’s cover”, but I thought that the design was really cool. I was surprised that this book was good because the begining was really long and boring. I am lucky that I stuck with this book and didn't pick another one. This book takes place in Harlem, NY mostly in a school gym. The main character named Drew is the person who’s point of view it’s in. Drew has a know it all self conscious sister named Jocelyn, an over protective mom, and a dad. He also has friends from his basketball team and his coaches. The book starts out with a shooting on the news and the mom wants to move out. That doesn’t work out. But she still dosent like the neighborhood but Drew and his sister dont mind it. Drew is the star of his high school basketball team along with his friend Ruffy. Drews goal in life is to play in the NBA ( The national Basketball Assosiation ). Two kids from Prague named Collin and Thomas both joined the highschool basketball team and the coaches and reporters pay most of there attention on them. They are not as good as Drew and Ruffy. The new kid, Thomas, fights with Drew about him taking the ball from him at the last seconds of the game. Drew didn't have faith in him. They becomes friendly with each other. Their team made it to the regional finals and lost. The two new kids from Prague got three offers for colleges each. Drew got one really good offer to a division one school. Thats how the story ends. If you work hard the outcome will be great. This what I think is the theme of the story. Drew is similar to me because he works hard like I do. I also like to play basketball and I never miss an opportunity to play. Some of the other books I have read in my past years had a similar theme. I would recommend this book to people who enjoy reading a good sports book. I rate this book 3½ out of of 5 stars.
