Pop

The book I chose was called Pop , by Gordan Koman. Pop, is about a kid named Marcus Jordan who moves in the middle of the summer and wants to tryout for the football team, but he is getting picked on. Marcus doesn’t make any friends until he met Charlie Popovich. Charlie Popovich was a real life NFL player in the Raiders playing linebacker. In his career they would call him “The King of Pop” because when he tackles someone, it would make like a pop sound. After suffering Early Onset Alzheimer's, Marcus then has to risk everything to keep his friendship with Charlie, by keeping it a secret. This story is spoken in third-person point of view.
The setting of this book is in school. Marcus Jordan is the main character of this story. He is a good, nice kid and would help his friends when they are down or in need of help. Charlie Popovich thought of him as a nice kid and can be someone he can tell things that he never told to anyone. I selected Pop because I like sports fiction and I thought this was a very interesting book and also because in the book there were real life NFL players.
I know after reading this book, it is to never quit on something you put your heart to, and follow your dreams because, yes, you will come to an obstacle, but you should not let that get to you, you should overcome and feel great about it. Pop really inspired me, because I play sports and there has been times where I just couldn’t do it anymore, but now after reading this book, I now know what I had to do, to overcome it.
I would definitely recommend this book. If you are a reader that likes sports and some mystery, this is a good book for you. This book has lots of twists I did not see coming. This is a great book for all ages because it has lots of great wording and it is nice and long. And if you liked Pop, you should definately check out other books Gordon Korman wrote. Such as Swindle (series), No More Dead Dogs , Schooled, Ungifted, and more. If you want to see more books by Gordon Korman, click here.
