One day in Wethersfield, Connecticut, Kit was sitting in the living room thinking about what she could of said to William to prevent the prank that Nat pulled.
“I could of told William from the start that I was not interested in marrying him. That way Nat wouldn’t of found out and he wouldn’t of gotten mad to the point where he pulls a prank.”
At that moment William knocked on her door. “What if he is going to ask me if I want to marry him again, she thought. What should I say?” Kit got up and walked to the door to answer it.
“Good day Miss Katherine.”
“Hello William, how are you?” responded Kit.
“I am fine but we need to talk,” William implied in a serious tone.
“Oh my! He’s going to ask! I haven’t even gotten the chance to think about it,” thought Kit.
Without waiting for what William was about to say to her, she blurted out every word on her mind.
“I’m sorry William but so much stuff has been going on and my mind just isn’t thinking straight. I haven’t found the time to think of an answer I’m so sorry,” cried Kit. She hoped that he would understand.
“Very well then. But I shall need an answer soon,” he concluded.
William walked away not saying another word. Kit was about to run after him but then decided not to. She went back into the living room and sat there quietly.
Later on in the day while doing chores Kit couldn’t think about anything else but what she had just done to William. She must have broken his heart. “Does he really love me?” she thought.
After dinner, Kit decided to go to Williams house to tell him her true feelings. As she knocked on his front door she hesitated, wondering if she made the right choice. William opened the door looking right into Kits eyes.
“I hope you have something important to tell me,” declared William.
“I do William… I can’t marry you.”
“Oh, well I would love to at least be friends,” William uttered.
“Of course,” Kit responded.
Then William slowly shut the door and Kit turned around to go back home.
