letter from kit

Dear Grace,

                 I have finally made it to America. As soon as i had got on the boat people did not like me.They looked at the way that I had dressed. People were looking at me like I was not from here. My journey was hard because there was a Goodwife Cruff and when i jumped in the water. Puritans think people who flot are bad and a witch. I met a boy named Nat he is Captain Eaten’s son. Nat stopped liking me because I said that i could  not get a nasty smell out of my hair. He got mad at me for saying that because i was his home. It took nine days to get up the river. When I got to america I thought I would be a good place but it was gray and i did not like It.

              I got to my Aunt Rachel’s house she thought I was her sister, my mother.”Margaret for a moment we stared at each other. No Aunt Rachel, she cried. ‘’Dont look like that! It is Kit I am Margaret’s daughter (30). Aunt Rachel said that because she had not seen my mother in a long time. I met a boy named William he comes over every Saturday. I work at a school and read and i do plays. In the house that i live in i have to work everyday. I have to were the things that they wear.

               While in Connecticut I live with my two cousins there names are Marcy and Judith. Macy is crippled and very nice. Judith is pretty but sometimes she can be a bit bash. I had met a minister Dr.Bulkely. He gets paid by the king. Him and my uncle Matthew had a fight at dinner about the king and his laws and the land. Dr.Bulkely had said to me ‘’So young lady your grandfather was knighted for loyalty by the King Charles you say?(60).That is what started the fight about the king. I teach at a school. I have them read and act out the bible.This is a part that i have to read ‘’Love Christ alway in secret pray,mine little play,make no delay in doing good’’(82)

           When I was crying in the meadows after I had got dismissed from the school that I have worked at. I had met met a old widow named Hannah Tupper. She lives on the edge of Blackbird pond and she is a Quaker. People call her a witch because every time it floods she leaves and then comes back no one knows where she goes. Hannah is very giving she has a carefree mind. And she is very easy to talk to. She does not follow what everyone in town does that is why people think she is a witch.She is different from everyone in town she does not think nasty one me. She like the same things that I do.When i visit her i feel like i am at home.
